On Wednesday 2 November, Springwood State High School took community connections to new heights as they hosted a Community Luncheon to engage and recognise the school's Primary School Partners.

The initiative is the centred on developing partnerships within Springwood State High School's community and included five of the school's Primary School Partners.

From Principals and teachers to Parent Liaison Officers and P&C volunteers, over 32 guests attended across the school's partners including, Springwood Central State School, Rochedale South State School, Chatswood Hills State School, Daisy Hill State School, and Springwood Road State School.

Attendees included last year's P&C Treasurer and Volunteer of the Year, Dave Martin from Daisy Hill State School and 2022 P&C Treasurer and Volunteer of the Year, Paula Padget from Springwood State High School.

With a strong ethos of community engagement to help support, encourage, inform, and build long lasting partnerships to enhance the learning of our students, Springwood State High School Principal, Melanie Harth is leading the way when it comes to driving partnerships for teachers, students, families, and their communities.

“At Springwood State High School, we see ourselves as part of the communities in which we operate, and we strive to be a positive, active, and contributing participant in community life," said Principal Harth.

“Supporting our Culture of Care and strong ethos in community engagement, our Springwood SHS Community Luncheon encourages regular communication and recognition within our primary school partners community."

Year 12 Hospitality Students from Springwood State High School supported their community luncheon initiative in the form of delicious food and drink, prepared and served to primary partners in conjunction with the school's 'Our House' Café.

“Our Certificate III in Hospitality students had a wonderful day serving mocktails and mouth-watering meals to the teachers, students and of course, our primary school partners here at Springwood SHS," Principal Harth continued.

“This opportunity was invaluable to our students' skills development as it enabled them to showcase not only their customer service skills but also further refine their hospitality skills in a 'real world' context.

“It's wonderful to see our teachers and students embracing our community partnership with 'Our House' Café."

Springwood State High School Year 12 students grow their leadership and citizenship skills through our Service Through Leadership Program. This program is designed for students to connect and engage with industry, community and service partners for post-schooling pathways and destinations.

With Springwood State High School grounded on growing students within the 21st century skills of the 6 C's; citizenship, collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking and character, Principal Melanie Harth envisages a future of collaborative community engagement where students can excel.

The luncheon is based on a pastoral structure that enables participatory, leadership and reward opportunities for all students based around their own areas of interest while celebrating students' efforts in community spirit," said Principal Harth.

“We're committed to supporting these community initiatives, such as our Springwood Community Luncheon's that support in creating healthy, vibrant, and cohesive communities."

With a passion for the local community, and a love of teaching and learning, there's no denying that this community initiative holds a special place in the hearts of teachers, students, and their wider community at Springwood State High School.

Springwood State High School is committed to providing excellence in 21st Century Teaching and Learning within a Culture of Care.
