On Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th of July, Springwood SHS was visited by Nishou Gakusha High School from Tokyo, Japan.
After some initial nervousness from both groups, our students quickly embraced their role as Aussie experts and spent their integration sessions educating our visitors about Aussie teen culture, Aussie slang, Aussie animals and Aussie foods.
Over the two-day visit, they also joined their Japanese buddies in learning how to play AFL and Touch Rugby.
In the last session on Friday, UNO proved, as always, to be a universal game and the laughter emanating from the room was proof of the strong bonds forged during the visit. After the gift and certificate ceremony, and in between lots of tears and hugs, it was time to say goodbye to our new friends.
This tour concludes the Springwood SHS international study tour program for 2026.
I want to take this opportunity to thank our Springwood SHS International Ambassador students for being so welcoming to our visitors and for fulfilling their buddy roles with patience, kindness, and respect.
It is wonderful to watch our international study tour program continue to grow and we look forward to welcoming more Japanese study tours back to Springwood SHS in 2027.
