Springwood State High School is excited to be one of 12 schools granted this title in Queensland.
As part of this program, we provide the students with designated AFL lessons, Excellence training opportunities, coaching and officiating courses as well as elite level competitions.
The AFL Excellence Program has been developed in conjunction with AFL Queenslan, a current AFL player/coach and local AFL clubs to provide students with opportunities to develop their skills, fitness and games sense in AFL.
This program is a mutifaceted approach where students will participate in AFL curriculum in Health and Physical Education, designated AFL training during the timetabled Excellence Program, participation in Academy training sessions and play in AFL Queensland's School of Excellence elite competition.
Students involved in the program attend weekly skills and fitness training sessions, participate in competition days and regional and district trials throughout the year.
Each student in the program will receive the following:
- Expert training sessions with qualified coaches
- Academy training shirt
- Links with our community partners, Springwood Australia Football Club - Pumas
- Links with the Brisbane Lions AFL Club through specialised athlete and community programs (Outside the locker room and the Inspire Program)
- Progressions to enrolment in teh Cerificate II in Sport and Recreation and the AFL approved Certificate III Fitness course
- AFL Queensland's Schools of Excellence Competitions
