Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is a pathway supporting the delivery of 21st century learning.  It is a term used to describe a digital device ownership model where students use their personally-owned mobile devices to access the department's information and communication (ICT) network.

These mobile devices include but are not limited to laptops, tablet devices, voice recording devices, USB's, DVD's and CD's.  Access to the department's ICT network is provided only if the mobile device meets the department's security requirements which, at a minimum, requires that anti-virus software has been installed, is running and is kept updated on the device (see Advice on Acceptable Use of ICT Facilities and Devices). Students and parents are responsible for the security, integrity, insurance and maintenance of their personal mobile devices and their private network accounts.

Devices need to be registered with the Department of Education either by contacting the IT department at Springwood State High School or by self-registering following the instructions in the video below.

             Windows Devices - Intune (Video)

             iOs Devices - Intune (video)

At Springwood State High School, the BYOD selection does not include the use of a mobile phone.  Chromebooks are NOT SUPPORTED by Education Queensland.

Each QLD student has an internet download quota while using school internet. At Springwood State High School, limit is 5Gb (5000Mb) or 10Gb (10000 Mb) depending on year level.

As part of the partnerships between Springwood State High School, JB HiFi and Datacom, we have been able to identify a number of different laptops, at varying price ranges that will meet the technical requirements of the school and the needs of the students. This information will provide parents with a secure portal to identify, purchase, protect and provide ongoing technical support during the life of the device. The Datacom and JB HiFi weblinks are listed below and JB HiFi BYOD parent toolkit has been attached to help parents through the process.

Students and parents will need to complete the attached form and return it to the school administration or finance window.  Once the school has received the signed form and sighted the approved device the student will receive a "BYOD APPROVED" sticker to place on the device.  The student will then be able to show their teachers they have the approval and able to use it in class.

Students and parents can download and read the full student charter on the website.

We look forward to engaging your student in 21st century teaching and learning through our digital platforms.
